Arabia Infelix

Originally published in 1915, this book is a solid and well-written account of Yemen in the early part of the twentieth century composed by one of the few Europeans qualified to observe it. It includes an early history of Yemen, accounts of native ire in the different climatic zones offered with anecdote and understanding. In his treatment of the fauna of the country Bury, ever the naturalist, is at his best, ascribing birds and beasts with personalities and characteristics peculiar only to them. This book reveals that Bury deserves to be judged among the finest talents of Arabian writing.
