The second volume of Borusan Contemporary Art Collection books is published by Ertuğ & Kocabıyık Publishing. It is an important resource for those interested in media art, as it outlines the 30-year collecting practice of the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection.
From the foreword
As the newly appointed artistic director of Borusan Contemporary, I feel incredibly privileged to be working with Borusan’s astounding Contemporary art collection, and am specially honored to be helping realize the extraordinary vision of its champion, collector and Borusan Holding board chairman Ahmet Kocabıyık, at this pivotal time in the collection’s transformation.
For decades Borusan has been dedicated to assembling a significant collection of works across a broad spectrum of genres, in particular painting, sculpture, prints, and photography. Now, just as the institution refocuses its attention on the field of Contemporary media arts, work that is unique to our time, we are preparing the second volume of the collection book. The chapters that follow up align with the collection’s current activity in the areas of video, moving-image installation, photography, light, kinetic objects and software-based practice.
Our goal in focusing on media arts is to develop, and generate and support for, a new way to contextualize the work-by emphasizing content, experience, and aesthetic criteria over technology. The artists may be working with the most complex technology of our time, but what is most important, and compelling, is art that is aesthetically and emotionally evocative, that makes us reflect on the state of the world and ourselves rather than on how the work was made.
